Jada Pinkett Smith has hit back at a lawsuit from Will Smith‘s former friend, who claims she threatened to kill him.
Jada was sued for $3 million in December by Bilaal Salaam, a man who alleges he was Will’s “best friend for nearly 40 years.”
According to People, Jada asked a California court to dismiss the lawsuit on February 16th, claiming it’s in conflict with California’s anti-SLAPP statute.
The motion to dismiss reads, “Plaintiff voluntarily gave media interviews claiming – without evidence – that he personally witnessed her husband, actor Will Smith, engaging in sexual acts.”
It continues, “Plaintiff’s allegations were false, uncorroborated, and made to generate attention as part of an ongoing public campaign of harassment directed at Defendant and her family.”
The comments refer to Salaam alleging he witnessed Will Smith having sex with actor Duane Martin.
The motion also called out Salaam for disclosing the contents of a cease and desist letter he received. “That letter was not a public statement at all,” documents read. “It was classic pre-litigation activity – confidential legal correspondence sent by counsel in anticipation of litigation – and is independently protected under California law.”
Salaam claimed that Jada issued threats against him for sharing details about her private life, recalling an alleged incident where she confronted him at Will’s birthday party at the Regency Calabasas Common in California on September 25th, 2021.
A filing read, “While in the lobby, Jada Pinkett Smith approached Plaintiff with approximately seven members of her entourage, became verbally aggressive, and threatened Plaintiff by stating that if he continued ‘telling her personal business,’ he would ‘end up missing or catch a bullet,’ and demanded he sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) ‘or else.’”
Salaam also alleged that Jada’s associate followed him to his car and threatened him verbally.
