Wiz Khalifa has revealed that his father has suddenly passed away at the age of 63.
The Pittsburgh rapper (real name Cameron Thomaz) announced his dad’s death on February 13th while explaining how much he meant to him.
“Today my father decided not to wake up,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “I will always love him, miss him and be greatful for the things he taught me. He went out like a true yogi, at peace and on his own time. I love you forever Laurence W Thomaz.”
Wiz later opened up about the final conversation he had with his father and the promise he made to him.
“The last conversation i had with my dad was him telling me how proud of me he was for the movie i was in and I promised him i would do more,” he said. “LT Forever.”
Fans and fellow rappers, including Killer Mike and Chevy Woods, showed their support for Wiz during his initial mourning, and it didn’t go unnoticed.
“Thank you all for your kind words,” Wiz wrote. “It really means a lot in this tough time and is helping me feel better.”
He added, “My father’s passing was sudden but seeing how many people love and respected him makes happy and i know he’s proud that he left a positive impact on this earth. Literally all he ever wanted.”
Wiz once revealed that his father played an important role in his music career, opening up a recording studio in his hometown that changed his life. “I lived in that studio,” he told NME in 2016. “And that’s what turned me into who I am today.”
