50 Cent explains why he stopped releasing music

50 Cent has shared the reason why he stopped releasing music.

The G-Unit rapper remains one of the biggest rappers of all time despite not releasing an album since 2014’s Animal Ambition.

During a recent interview with Rolling Stone, 50 went into detail about his decision to stop dropping his own music.

He also revealed that he’s planning to release new music again now that he feels there’s a higher demand for it.

“Look, I’m going to make music,” he said. “I’m excited that this is the feeling. The general consensus is they want to hear something new from me, right? You can have the best verse, but I don’t think you should have the best verse at 50 years old. I think hip-hop is connected to youth culture and I think simplicity is the part of why it’s the best music.”

50 explained how the younger generation took the attention away from him, rather than his music getting worse.

“I’m glad I stopped, ’cause you can bang your head against the wall until your brain falls out the other side,” he said. “And it’s not that the music isn’t right, it’s that they’re choosing something else at the moment.”

He continued, “It’s like Drake, I don’t remember wack records from [him]. I didn’t hear any wack records. I just heard records that were broader, that were written for a top 40 or crossover radio that wasn’t written for the hood, but it wasn’t wack.”

While 50 hasn’t been releasing his own music, he’s collaborated many times during his absence.

Songs include ‘Remember the Name’ with Ed Sheeran and Eminem, ‘Gunz n Smoke’ with Snoop Dogg and Em, ‘Beep Beep’ with Nicki Minaj, and ‘Office Hours’ with Nas.
