Did Luke Bryan just predict the next American Idol?
During the Monday, Feb. 23 episode of the singing competition show, the “Play It Again” singer was impressed by Braden Rumfelt’s Hollywood Week performance to Sam Smith’s “I’m Not the Only One” — and predicted a bright future for him on the show.
“Can you make it look harder next time? We knew you were special in your audition,” Bryan, 49, said to the 22-year-old North Carolina native.

“We knew it, we felt it, we’re here to support you, we’re here to lift you up, we want you to have fun,” he continued. “Man, you picked the perfect song. Lean in, be you, be yourself and get ready for the ride. It’s gonna be really, really special.”
After he left the stage, Bryan looked at fellow judges Carrie Underwood and Lionel Richie and declared: “He may win.”
“But it seems like it’s gonna do well,” he said.
During his audition, Rumfelt brought his twin brother and sang “Girl Crush” by Little Big Town.
“I don’t know what I expected to come out of your mouth but that wasn’t it and it made me happy,” Underwood, 42, said, noting that he looked “really nervous” and he needed to loosen up.

“I think you’re a race horse man,” Bryan said, as Richie complimented the tone of his voice.
“He can sing ya’ll… You’ll do really good in this competition,” the “That’s My Kind of Night” singer said.
At the end of the Feb. 23 episode, Rumfelt’s future on the show remained on a cliffhanger. So far, the contestants to make it through Hollywood Week — and who have a chance at winning it all — are Bryant Thomas, Keyla Richardson, Makiyah, Jordan McCullough, Madison Moon, Roelle, Trace Casanova, Hannah Harper, Philmon Lee, Lucas Leon, Kiera Howell, Abayomi and Michael Garner.
American Idol airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
