Aaliyah’s Last Video Warned Us About Beyonce

“It’s hard to say what I want my legacy to be. You know, what I want people to say when I’m long gone. I want people to look at me as a full-on entertainer and a good person.”

Those haunting words from Aaliyah Haughton, spoken in one of her final interviews, have taken on a chilling new meaning in light of conspiracy theories swirling around the internet.

It’s always been so unfortunate how Aaliyah’s life was cut short, literally at the peak of her career when everyone was fangirling her – including, wait for it, Beyoncé.

There’s old footage of a young Beyoncé on the red carpet, microphone in hand, interviewing the woman who was then considered one of the hottest female artists in the game.

“What’s up? What’s up? This is Beyoncé on the red carpet with one of the hottest female artists out here, Miss Aaliyah. How you doing, girl?” Beyoncé asked with clear admiration.

“It’s so good to see you again,” Aaliyah replied warmly.

“You, too. She’s just looking fabulous. What are you wearing tonight?” Beyoncé continued.

“I’m wearing Gucci. Gucci shoes. Gucci. Got a little Indian jewelry working,” Aaliyah responded.

“Oh, that is hot. All right. Thank you,” Beyoncé said before shifting gears. “Now, you’ve been working it with these movies. Were you nervous?”

“Very nervous, but I’m real happy. It’s something I’ve wanted for a long time. So, finally make that transition,” Aaliyah shared.

Innocent enough, right? Two young stars at different points in their trajectory, one on the rise and one already ascended.

But with everything that has been coming out about the entertainment industry – especially about the Carters – people are now saying that if you listen carefully, really carefully, to Aaliyah’s last interviews before her death, you will realize she was always hinting that something or someone was coming for her.

And guess whose name keeps coming up in these discussions?

Yes, Beyoncé. And by extension, her boo Jay-Z.

The conspiracy theory goes like this: allegedly, Sean Carter is responsible for enlisting Hype Williams to put a flaw in a faulty plane to move Aaliyah out of the way as punishment for rejecting him – and so he could level up Beyoncé, who was struggling.

Let’s just say allegedly that happened.

For some reason, a subset of the internet is convinced that Beyoncé is some kind of leader in a secret cult-like club in the music industry, and she has a say in whatever happens to people in the industry – including how they die.

Here’s a conspiracy theory that will definitely leave you thinking.

Jay-Z allegedly sacrificed Aaliyah and got with Beyoncé as a cover-up. And for their sacrifice to go full circle, Blue Ivy had to be born in the same birth month as Aaliyah.

I know it sounds really crazy. But the things that Blue Ivy has also been associated with are equally insane. I have even seen people talking about how Aaliyah’s spirit lives in Blue and how the older she gets, the more she looks like Aaliyah.

Before getting too ahead of ourselves, let’s break it down.

People have been saying over the years that one of the reasons Beyoncé supposedly felt some type of way about Aaliyah is because she knew that Jay-Z was obsessed with her. And this is something that has been well documented.

Around the 2000s, Aaliyah was becoming super famous and had just starred in her first movie, *Romeo Must Die*. According to someone who attended a party that Jay-Z hosted back in the day, after Jay-Z had just had a big hit with “Big Pimpin’,” he did not show up to the party with anyone – and that’s because he had his eyes on Aaliyah.

The source told Daily Mail: “I saw that Jay-Z was trying to get close to Aaliyah, but I didn’t think too much of it at the time. I probably thought they were just friends or making music together. Jay-Z was all over Aaliyah. They were hugging each other, and you could totally see there was chemistry between them. I knew that Damon was going out with her, so I did think it was a little weird.”

Remember, Damon Dash – the person Aaliyah was dating at the time – also said that Jay-Z was obsessed with Aaliyah when he told Page Six: “He tried very hard. I did not mean to fall in love with Aaliyah. She was just that cool. But you know, we were both going hard. Everybody was trying to get to Aaliyah. It was not just Jay.”

According to Dash, he didn’t even know Jay-Z had feelings for Aaliyah before he started dating her. And he added: “I did not know Jay was trying to holler at her, but then it just happened like that. He was trying. I was trying. Everybody was trying. He was going hard.”

Speaking of Dame Dash, he’s said before that his fallout with Jay-Z was because he couldn’t believe that Jay still continued to work with R. Kelly knowing very well what R. Kelly did to Aaliyah.

But people have also speculated that it was easy for Jay-Z to cut ties with Dame because he backed the person he was eyeing for years – aka Aaliyah.

In fact, some people like Jaguar Wright claimed that Jay-Z actually had intimate relations with Aaliyah.

“And he was working with R. Kelly and they were making so many records together. You know, they made all of those records together. They both… Aaliyah, they shared so much in common,” Wright has claimed in interviews.

This was apparently something Beyoncé knew deep in her soul, and that’s why, according to sources, she never liked Aaliyah. Plus, we know that Aaliyah still continued to hang around Jay-Z, and that probably even made things worse.

But that’s not the only thing that happened.

Allegedly, because Aaliyah became impossible to control, Jay-Z and the other elites had to make sure that she was gone for good. And there have been rumors that Beyoncé participated in making sure Aaliyah was gone forever.

Ideally, there was only room for one queen, and two potential queens were after the throne.

By the way, something interesting about Beyoncé and Aaliyah: Aaliyah means “highest, most exalted one” and Beyoncé means “one who is beyond others.” See how already there was a problem there? These were two women who wanted to be the best.

But like we said, back in the day there was enough room for only one. Meaning the other one had to go.

Now, as the story goes, Aaliyah was in Miami to film dance routines on a green screen set for the “Rock the Boat” music video, which was being directed by Hype Williams. However, Hype suddenly decided to move the shoot to the Bahamas.

On August 23rd, Aaliyah and employees of Virgin Records flew to the islands.

No one really knows why Hype changed his mind at the last minute and insisted on doing the video in the Bahamas when Miami had everything they needed, including a green screen set and beautiful beaches. And to be quite honest, Hype Williams filming “Rock the Boat” in two countries was foolish – the majority of the music video was shot in a pool, on a boat, and with green screen. Not one palm tree in sight.

Unless, of course, there was something else going on.

What also seems suspicious is that Lenny Kravitz, who has family in the Bahamas, reportedly offered Aaliyah his private jet. But according to Dame Dash, Hype Williams took it from her.

“What I was really more tight about was that I had heard that Lenny Kravitz had offered her a jet and that Hype took the jet. So that’s what really pissed me off about the situation when I heard about that. So you could ask Hype about that,” Dash said in an interview.

When asked if he ever talked to Hype about it, Dash replied simply: “Ask him.”

Very suspicious, right? And why did Lenny send that plane in the first place?

Also, it was a well-known fact that Aaliyah was terrified of flying, and she always traveled with her mom or brother. But this time she was forced to fly without her family, which was also weird.

Aaliyah was also supposed to stay in the Bahamas until August 26th. However, they wrapped up the set a day earlier, and Aaliyah’s team insisted on leaving that same day. But when Aaliyah saw the plane they gave her, she instantly had a bad feeling and kept telling her entourage she didn’t want to fly.

It’s like she knew something would go wrong.

To make matters worse, Aaliyah did an interview in Paris just weeks before she died. And this is what she said:

“It’s dark in my favorite dream. Someone is after me. Don’t know why. I got fear. Then suddenly I lift off. I fly away. Far away. How do I feel now? It is like swimming in the air. Free and without any weight. No one can reach me. No one can touch me. It’s a wonderful feeling. Otherwise, I am alarmed by this dream somehow. What does it mean? That I want to escape from the real life sometimes. But from what? From success or the pressure of show business. No, I enjoy every second of my fame. If I could rewind my life back to the start, I wouldn’t change a thing.”

Honestly, again, it’s like she knew for a fact that someone was coming for her, just like people have been saying.

Even Mary J. Blige once said that she believed there was a lot of foul play in Aaliyah’s death and said that she knew she was next.

In her words: “It was just that when I saw her die, that’s when I discovered the fact that I’m next. I don’t know how or when, but I’m next. I don’t know what kind of accident they’re going to put me in or what kind of OD they’re going to sort out, but at the end of the day, I knew I was next. I just thought I’m scared.”

The allegation has always been that Jay-Z and his wife Beyoncé possibly knew what happened to Aaliyah. And several people have said this over the years, like Jaguar Wright and Lord Jamar.

“I had forgotten about what happened to Aaliyah,” Lord Jamar once said in an interview. “I mean, here’s this guy who was in love with this girl and now your business partner is doing a project on your label with a guy that essentially raped your girl and… like, yo, what’s going on here?”

To add to that, back in 2002, Nas suggested that Jay-Z knew what R. Kelly was doing with Aaliyah and others. He told Wendy Williams during a radio interview when a tape of R. Kelly leaked:

“I could have showed the R. Kelly video that everybody’s talking about and made fun of it and show pictures of Jay hanging out. You can’t tell me Jay didn’t see them come into the studio and sit on R. Kelly’s lap. You going to tell me he didn’t see no one come into the vicinity?”

If you ask a lot of people, they will tell you that Beyoncé also knew what was going on. And based on what’s been said online, Aaliyah even tried to warn people about her.

They were still so young when all this was going on. But do you believe that’s also when Beyoncé sort of stamped her dominance? Is it possible that for her to get to where she is, she had to turn a blind eye to what was happening? And did that include knowing exactly what happened to Aaliyah?

It’s important to note that these are all unverified conspiracy theories circulating on the internet. There is zero evidence linking Beyoncé or Jay-Z to any wrongdoing in Aaliyah’s death. The official investigation concluded that the plane crash was caused by pilot error, overload, and the aircraft being improperly balanced.

Representatives for Beyoncé and Jay-Z have never commented on these theories, and both artists have publicly spoken about Aaliyah with respect over the years.

But in the world of internet conspiracy, facts don’t always get in the way of a compelling story. And this one – of a rising star, a tragic death, and the queen who may have known more than she’s telling – continues to captivate audiences more than two decades later.
