Eminem takes legal action against ‘The Real Squid Shady’

Eminem has reportedly filed an opposition against ‘The Real Squid Shady’.

The company is a music brand that tried to trademark its name for entertainment services, but the Detroit rapper isn’t happy with the move.

According to AllHipHop, Em filed his opposition with the United States Patent and Trademark Office and wants to block ‘The Real Squid Shady’ application before it gets approved.

In a legal filing this week, Eminem’s attorney stated that he has been using the “Shady” name since the 1990s as part of his identity in the public eye, while naming all of his current trademark registrations.

Em owns the rights to ‘Shady‘ on T-shirts, sweatshirts, shorts, halter tops, and hats, as well as many ‘Slim Shady’ registrations for clothing, music, and live performances.

The opposition alleges that Eminem “invested a substantial amount of time, effort, and money in promoting his name” and ensuring “high quality of goods and services.”

His lawyer, Mary Frances Love, claimed that letting ‘The Real Squid Shady’ move forward would create confusion and “false association,” with the possibility of damaging the Shady brand through “blurring and tarnishment.”

Em previously filed a lawsuit against Australian beach brand Swim Shady in November, alleging trademark infringement. He claimed that the name was too similar to his alter ego, filing a petition in September to cancel the company’s US trademark just days after it was granted.

Swim Shady sells items like umbrellas, swim bags, towels, and shorts, with Eminem claiming the company’s name could lead people to think he’s involved with the company. Em said his trademark in Australia has also been infringed after his legal team opposed the move in October 2024.
